how many b12 festivals are there and what are the festival dates and deadlines?
b12 is organising three festivals - in the spring, summer and fall. the one in the summer is our main event and has over 80 workshops, countless performances, events and lasts four weeks. the ones in spring and fall are lasting two weeks and host performance projects, research workshops and performances. all three festivals are happening in person and on site here in berlin, at the studios and theatres, with all of the participants, teachers and choreographers. here are the festival dates and deadlines:
what is b12 mavericks?
b12 organises three festivals for contemporary dance and performance art in berlin: b12 spring, b12 summer und b12 fall. but now we are also launched a brand new, three month long contemporary educational program. research, network and performance opportunities are designed for a selected group of artists who commit for the 3 months duration of the program: b12 mavericks. please note that the following faq answers are referring to the 3 festivals, not b12 mavericks. here you can find b12 mavericks own faq section.
what are the "stay & research" offers?
do you want to book workshops at b12 and not worry about where to stay? our "stay & research" offer might be for you! we invented this offer for you - through "stay & research" you can book a combination of performance projects or workshops and accommodation (at eden studios - on the site where the festivals are mainly happening) for an unbeatable price. we offer this package in the spring, summer and fall.
how do i apply for b12 workshops?
you can apply for all research workshops (4, 6, 8-day workshops, stay & research offers, somatic workshops, mentoring workshops, framing motion, performance projects and any other format up until one day prior to the start of that workshop.
early bird offers have deadlines, other offers not. here are the deadlines for the early bird registration for the workshops:
b12 spring: 24th of february early bird deadline
b12 summer: 24th of march early bird deadline
b12 fall: 15th of august early bird deadline
you have two options on how you can apply:
1st option - direct application
on each workshop page, you will find an "add to my summer workshops", "add to my spring workshops", or "add to my fall workshops" button. click on it and this workshop will be added to the list of workshops that you are interested in taking. to access this list, click on the icon "my spring workshops", "my summer workshops", or "my fall workshops" next to the menu button, and a pop-up window will open. you will now be able to start the application process.
please decide from the list which workshops you would like to apply for. for all the workshops you don't want to apply for, click "remove" and they will disappear.
you can apply for as many workshops as you would like. if you are applying for more than one workshop, it would help us if you could indicate your workshops from "priority 1" (top priority) to "priority 6" (lowest priority). doing this will save us all a couple of emails, making our correspondence even faster.
please continue to fill out the form. note that all the starred (*) fields are obligatory. to submit the application, click "apply". after sending your application, a new pop-up window will appear, informing you if your application went through. if your application was successfully submitted to us, you will receive an automated email confirmation. please also check your spam folder!
after receiving this confirmation, please allow us a couple of days to get back to you.
2nd option - email application
send us an email at researchordie[at]b12.space with the workshops that you would like to take. please provide us with your full name, full address (including country), a video link and a biography. if you would like, you can add a short motivation letter for each workshop.
you can apply for as many workshops as you would like. if you are applying for more than one workshop, it would help us if you could indicate your workshops from "priority 1" (top priority) to "priority 6" (lowest priority). doing this will save us all a couple of emails, making our correspondence even faster.
once we have received your application, we will follow up with a personalized email confirmation. please allow us a couple of days to get back to you.

is there an application deadline?

when is the performance project deadline?
there is no application deadline for the performance project. you can apply up until one day prior to the beginning of the performance projects.
what is the registration deadline for the free of charge no leader improv sessions?
there is no deadline - for the no leader improv sessions you can just come and partake - there is no deadline or registration. this workshop is free of charge for all b12ers. please note that they only happen during b12 summer.
what is the registration deadline for the free of charge massage sessions?
there is no deadline - for the massage sessions you can just come and partake - there is no deadline. this workshop is free of charge for all b12ers. please note that they only happen during b12 summer and that we register people on a first come first serve basis.

how do i pay for my workshops?
there are three ways to pay your workshop fee: a regular bank transfer, via paypal, or through wise. please make sure that you pay for your workshops in advance.
what happens if i miss my payment deadline?
unfortunately, we will no longer be able to hold your spot in the workshop and it might be offered to another applicant.
why do i have to apply - can i not just book?
we try to assemble specific groups for every workshop. we want to make sure that we find the best fit and that everybody in the room can fully participate. this is why we ask you to provide material, so we can judge your level of dedication and technique.
how much experience do i need to have in order to apply and is there a minimum age i have to have?
apart from workshops that indicate "open to everyone" or the teachers who specify in their workshop description groups of people they think are a good fit, we are looking for professional level dancers/performers who have already experience in the field or are in a professional educational program. please be clear in your application about your experience. other than requesting a minimum age of 18 years, we have no age limit.
i don’t have a video link - can i still apply?
it is obligatory to send us a video link because it provides us with an important perspective of you.
what is the "waiting pool"?
when a workshop has filled up, we create a second "pool" of applicants. if a place opens up, we will offer the spot to one of the applicants in the "waiting pool".
I might not be available for all the days of the workshops or performance projects. can i still apply?
if you already know that you have a conflict, please do not apply for these workshops or performance projects. we look for people who can commit to the entire duration of the workshops.
do i need to write an individual motivation letter for each of the workshops i apply for?
no, but if you want to help with our decision-making process, you can write a motivation paragraph for each workshop application.
can i drop into or swap a workshop once i am in berlin? or if i have more energy - can I take another workshop?
because of many factors, b12 needs advance registration for its workshops - before the workshop begins. you cannot swap right before or after a workshop has started. please visit also our terms & conditions. if you would like to apply for another workshop on top of your already booked workshops, you can certainly do that.
i have been accepted to a workshop. can i change to another workshop?
if you have already accepted and paid for your workshop you have to cancel the original workshop and apply again to the new one. the cancellation policy will apply. please visit also our terms & conditions.
how many people are in each workshop?
the group size can vary from 7 to 40 people. this depends on both the size of the studio and the type of workshop given.
in what language are the workshops held?
all the workshops are held in english.

are there any performances at the b12 festival to watch?
yes, b12 is devoted to curating controversial performances and hosting different types of performance approaches. side note - tickets are very limited, so you should make sure to book as soon as each premier and performance is announced. to see performances at the b12 festival, you don't need to take workshops - everybody interested is welcome! you can find all details here.
if i am a participant of b12, can i apply to show my own work?
yes you can - this is our newest platform called free radicals only at b12 summer!
we will present three different solo or duet works (maximum 20 minutes each) on the 9th and the 23th of july 2026 in an informal studio setting with audience here at b12, eden studios. those showings from b12ers will be very low key, lights on and off kind of thing. the showing starts at 9:30pm and it lasts all in all probably like 90 minutes, including a talk back. we will compensate each piece with 100 euros. please send your proposal latest by the 31st of may 2026 to you@b12.space with "mavericks application" in the subject line, and we will select all in all six different works. we can only accept vimeo or youtube links to watch your piece. please make sure that you indicate in your application on which one of the two possible dates you would like to be presented, if chosen. we will get back to you with the results by the middle of june 2026.
