Joy Alpuerto Ritter
dancer with Akram Khan Company
shapeshifting dynamics
joy's workshop is a practice sourced from different movement techniques that she has been training in her 30 years of experience as a dancer. her versatile dance background in traditional, classical, club and urban dance styles and contemporary dance has enabled her to develop a unique mix of movement qualities coming from different cultural backgrounds. in her workshop, dancers will practice a grounded, dynamic physicality and grooves which strengthen the presence, awareness, and virtuosity in space, as well as the details in articulating and isolating body parts in connection with musicality and rhythmical patterns. the participants will do exercises, combinations, and also learn choreographic material with these elements. at the same time, they can explore the differences, similarities, and connections between the different movement vocabularies. they will also have the possibility to engage in their own creativity and individual qualities with improvisational tasks in order to go deeper into different body states, storytelling, and performative expressions within the given context.
the description reflects an artist’s idea which was developed at the time it was submitted to b12. it may have changed by the time the workshop or the performance project is starting. please stay flexible. thank you!
