the current trend in the international performing arts industry emphasises multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches. many prestigious productions seek performers who possess not only exceptional dance technique but also a strong understanding of theatrical skills, including acting, improvisation and advanced performance techniques. momentum in space offers a specialised workshop designed for a diverse range of performing artists. led by hoyoung im, whose comprehensive artistic background includes award-winning acting, film directing, professional dance and music composition, with over ten years of experience, participants will acquire foundational acting skills, explore innovative methods for interdisciplinary performance, enhance musicality and learn to create choreography based on textual interpretation. participants will develop their own short solo piece, incorporating elements of text and improvisation.

biography
hoyoung is a korean performing artist, choreographer, contemporary dance instructor, music composer, filmmaker and visual artist with professional bases in germany and south korea. he holds a degree in cinema and theatre. hoyoung’s artistic journey began in 2010 as an actor, during which he developed a distinctive theatrical methodology across various genres, including drama, experimental theatre, physical theatre and documentary theatre, engaging not only as a performer but also as a theatre creator. upon relocating to europe, hoyoung expanded upon his unique physical language and emphasised multidisciplinary performance, integrating his diverse artistic skills in acting, music and video production. his creative works delve into storytelling informed by cognitive psychological perspectives, exploring how human history influences individual lives and cultures. critics have praised his work as producing physical theatre with unique theatrical colours.

the word umzikssi derives from pure korean-based vocabulary, standing for a verb. tilting the group signifies the core of this collective, a combination of modern music, videography and technology to create new action, movement and trends. umzikssi aims to collaborate across various genres, rather than following the traditional form of performance. umzikssi strives to mix analogue and digital approaches while posing sharp theatrical questions. the collective produces diverse works across the arts, taking photos and videos, composing and performing music, and engaging with multiple media. we strive to bring our ideas to the audience, encouraging not only observation but also immersive experience through our performances.
