Šuka horn

Awareness in action

šuka’s teachings are a deep dive into the world of movement, meditation and the relationship between the two. in his approach, dancing is treated as the essential ingredient that can bridge between different approaches to the development of body, heart and mind, and therefore foster the transfer and integration of embodied knowledge. while this practice can/will eventually lead to lasting transformation and growth, an essential part of it is not to be too concerned with the outcome. instead of grinding through unpleasant/uninteresting exercises for a future benefit, šuka tries to make participants fall in love with an array of infinite games that explore and develop different aspects of ourselves. deep engagement in the moment through quiet observation, as well as wild play and a good dose of humor, are at the core of it all. possible side effects include enlightenment, immortality and love for life — but you don’t need to worry about those!

the description reflects an artist’s idea which was developed at the time it was submitted to b12. it may have changed by the time the workshop or the performance project is starting. please stay flexible. thank you!

biography

born and raised in germany, šuka began his early training in martial arts and music before discovering breakdancing at the age of 12. after earning a degree in dance from codarts university in rotterdam, šuka relocated to athens in 2020 to join dimitris papaioannou in two creations: transverse orientation and ink — a duet performed alongside papaioannou. while touring the world with these shows for over four years, šuka also delved deep into the world of meditation through an ongoing mentoring process as a private student of mushtaq ali al ansari. he also studied privately with frey faust to deepen his knowledge of the human body and movement training. this interest in holistic transformative practice led to šuka’s decision to leave the performing arts world behind and focus solely on researching and teaching. his workshops, classes and retreats have been held in universities, dance companies and festivals across more than 20 countries.
