Atelier
atelier is a pedagogical and artistic space that bridges my experience as a professional dancer and independent creator. it celebrates the studio as a laboratory for experimentation, craft and identity. through years of performing and teaching, i have observed a shift in how new generations relate to the body and movement. my aim is to foster awareness, curiosity and authenticity by combining technique, composition and improvisation. drawing from the legacies of artists such as pina bausch, sidi larbi cherkaoui, malou airaudo and dominique mercy, i seek to transmit this embodied knowledge while inviting students to question and reinvent it. the work unfolds around jean cébron’s compositional factors—energy, form, space and rhythm—integrating the jooss-leeder method as a foundation. breathing, repetition and oppositional forces guide dancers toward conscious presence and precision. improvisation and composition tasks open a dialogue between intuition and structure, encouraging participants to explore personal expression beyond physical skill. through play, reflection and detailed study, dancers develop autonomy and resilience. atelier proposes a shared inquiry into movement as a poetic, social and political act — a process where individual research and collective awareness converge toward a more sustainable and coherent artistic practice.

biography
pau aran gimeno (barcelona, 1981) is a dance artist working between germany and spain. born near barcelona, he began dancing at ten, training in ballroom, jazz, modern, classical and contemporary dance. after studying at the real conservatorio profesional de danza mariemma in madrid, he combined his training at folkwang universität der künste in essen. in 2005, at 24, he joined tanztheater wuppertal – pina bausch, where he danced until 2020, performing in over 25 pieces and absorbing the depth of bausch’s language. he continues collaborating as a guest facilitator with the pina bausch foundation, contributing to the transmission of her legacy while refining his sensitivity to detail, breath and intention. since 2013, pau has developed his own choreographic voice, presenting works across europe, chile and japan. he collaborates with sidi larbi cherkaoui and has worked with theo clinkard, alan lucien øyen, antonio ruz, stefan jovanović and jorge puerta armenta. recent creations include lettre d’amour (2020), un cadavre exquis ll (2022) and seeking the truth (2023). currently, pau stands at a turning point, integrating his performing experience into a personal choreographic and pedagogical language. he unites creation and transmission, exploring the poetics of contemporary dance theatre through authenticity, inclusivity and dialogue between tradition and future—a human-centred practice grounded in rigor, detail and listening.
